Playing Antigone
A short film co-directed by Mia Torres and Sam V Morehouse, conceived by Lily Franklin.
The short punk-rock musical adaptation of Antigone centers on the character Ismene (Mia Foster) and the toil she faces by being at odds with her sister Antigone (Lily Miller) about the burial and deaths of their family whilst being pursued and prosecuted by the Chorus/Messenger (Summer Luma) and Creon (Lizzie Hall).
The short film won first prize in the “Out of Chaos Playing Antigone” film contest. From the judges:
This musical intervention creates a heavy sense of atmosphere: anxious, melancholy, and portentous. There is thoughtful and intentional use throughout of mirrors, of light and shadow, and of choreography, further contributing to the aforementioned atmosphere. The performers and crew have engaged meaningfully with the play and created something interesting and well-crafted in its own right---very well done!
The script, score, and music were created by Lily Franklin. Performances by Mia Foster, Lily Miller, Summer Luma, and Lizzie Hall. Additional direction and editing by Sam V. Morehouse.
